Florida Reading FLASH!

Share/Save/Bookmark
Think the Marlins will make the playoffs this season?

Maybe. But right now your goal is to pass the Florida Reading test.

Amsco’s Florida Reading Grade 6, Florida Reading Grade 7, and Florida Reading Grade 8 will help students review the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for Grades 6–8 English Language Arts. The student books, by authors Dana Henricks (6-8), Amy Himes (8), and Virginia Pake (8), include eight chapters that cover all the benchmarks assessed on the Florida Reading test. There's also a Practice Test modeled on the Florida Reading test right in the book (with more to be found in the Teacher's Guide with Answer Key and Test Bank).

Special Features
  • Benchmark indicators, which show which standards are covered in each chapter
  • Key Concepts, a study aid that highlights and reinforces important concepts covered in each chapter
  • Try It Out opportunities for guided practice (Practice makes perfect!)
  • On Your Own opportunities for independent practice (Go ahead, challenge me!)
The star (of Grades 6 and 7) is Florida Fred, a cartoon cat, who gives student-friendly test tips and multiple-choice question strategies. Oh, and a little bit of attitude. (Way to go, dude!)
Meow!
In all three books, one of the coolest chapters is Chapter Seven, “Now Featuring,” which sharpens students’ skills at reading text features (including boldface and italic text, quotation marks, and text boxes), and especially reading graphic text features such as line, bar, and pie charts. Students who master this will be on their way to acing the Florida Reading test. Across the series, a high-interest mix of informational and literary texts will engage Florida middle school students. Visual texts such as maps, diagrams, graphs, illustrations, and photos accompany the readings, preparing students for what they’ll encounter on the actual exam.

So, don’t let the Marlins’ antics distract you from the Florida Reading test. Whether or not they make the playoffs, you’ll still have to pass the test! See these brand-new books for yourself! Click the links to view virtual samples of Grade 6, Grade 7, and Grade 8.

  1. Finally, a product that is aligned not only to the new standards, but to the rigor required for mastery. This is the best book on the marked for reinforcing the NG-SSS standards. Bravo!
